A10 Tunnel Zederhaus: First tube opened for traffic

Half time at the construction site of the Tunnel Zederhaus in the Lungau region. The first tube of the tunnel in direction to Villach is open form traffic since December 23, 2015.

Since August 2013 contractors work on the construction of the 1.5 km long tunnel to protect the village of Zederhaus from emissions caused by the heavy traffic on the A10 Tauernautobahn. Construction works have been finished on schedule in August 2015 and subsequently the electromechanical equipment has been installed and finally tested for almost a month from begin of December. Until summer 2017 also the second tube will be completed. Works for the second tube in direction Salzburg already start in January 2016.

JES has again strongly contributed to the tunnel safety with its environmental monitoring solutions in front and in the first tube. On behalf of general contractor for the electromechanical equipment Caverion Österreich GmbH we delivered and commissioned the sensors to monitor the air quality:

Further we delivered for the light control system:

JES also implemented and commissioned the road weather station in front of the tunnel. A special challenge were the very unfavourable weather conditions during the installation of the road sensors. The road weather station according to the ASFINAG openWIS standard included sensors to measure:

  • Air temperature and relative humidity
  • Precipitation type and intensity
  • Road surface temperature
  • Freezing temeperatur
  • Road surface condition
